Lucy Wang is an award-winning, published, and produced multi-genre storyteller whose work spans plays, screenplays, journalism, prose, poetry, and performance. Her mission is to advance social justice, spark laughter, and amplify voices often left unheard.

Her path to the arts has been anything but linear. Before writing professionally, Lucy traded bonds on Wall Street and served as Deputy Chief of Staff to New York City Mayor David N. Dinkins. She brings an entrepreneurial rigor and inventive spirit to her creative practice. “Your voice and vision are gifts to the world,” she tells her students. “My goal is to help you shine.”

Lucy’s plays have been performed across the United States and internationally, with many published by Original Works Publishing, Gitelman & Good, Applause Books, Meriwether Publishing, YouthPLAYS, Amazon, and others. She sold a half-hour television comedy pilot and, after encouragement from feminist icon Gloria Steinem, ventured into stand-up comedy. Her one-woman shows have played to sold-out audiences, earning recognition for both her writing and performance. In 2022, she became the first comic to perform in the Green Room at Crosstown Arts in Memphis.

Her honors include residencies and awards from MacDowell, Hedgebrook, Storyknife, Yefe Nof, Crosstown Arts, and the Annenberg Community Beach House, as well as support from the Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays, the NEA Playwriting Initiative Fellowship, the James Thurber Fellowship, the Berrilla Kerr Foundation, and the Katherine & Lee Chilcote Foundation (Best New Play with Political and Social Significance). She has also been named Look What She Did! Outstanding Female Artist in Los Angeles.

In addition to her theatrical work, Lucy has received recognition for healthcare journalism, prose, poetry, teleplays, and screenplays, with work appearing in literary journals and trade publications.

Teaching and mentorship are central to her practice. At the Dramatists Guild Institute, she has taught Singular Sensation, Courting the Muse, Writing to Win, Place or Show, and Writing TYA. Her students’ success is notable and sustained—many credit her not only with strengthening their craft, but with helping them navigate the professional field.

Lucy is also a leader and advocate within the arts community. She co-founded Honor Roll!, an action and advocacy group for women playwrights over 40, and served on its executive committee. Her papers are archived at the Huntington Library and in the CEMA collections at UC Santa Barbara.

She holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. With a background that bridges the arts and business, Lucy embodies resilience, creative risk-taking, and generosity of spirit—whether on the page, on stage, or in the classroom.
