Jesus Christ Superstar
Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber & Lyrics by Tim Rice
Presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of The Really Useful Group.
A timeless work, the rock opera is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally known series of events but seen, unusually, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Loosely based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Superstar follows the last week of Jesus Christ’s life. The story, told entirely through song, explores the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene, his disciples, his followers and the Roman Empire.

A Different Kind of Audition
The Players’ production of Jesus Christ Superstar begins with a workshop-style audition designed to help performers and the creative team connect through a shared artistic language.
This is not a traditional “learn-and-present” audition - it’s an interactive rehearsal experience where we’ll explore, create, and respond together.
Throughout the workshop:
Director Travis Bryant will assessing for invites to the Callback for Leads and Principals Roles.
Music Director Casey Burden will teach sections of “Simon Zealotes.”
Choreographer Rick Delancy will lead a collaborative movement session built from the show’s vocabulary and ideas and stage “Simon Zealotes”.
Expect to move between structured teaching and spontaneous creation - this process lets us see how you listen, adapt, and collaborate in real time.
No experience is required — all levels are welcome. We’re forming both singing and dance ensembles, and every performer will be a mover in this production.
Preparation Materials
An Audition Packet will be emailed to all who sign up. It includes:
Links to instructional videos for both movement combinations
Links to the “Simon Zealotes” MP3 track
Notes on the vocal and choreographic language used in the show
The materials introduce the creative vocabulary used in the process - ideas like release, drive, and connection - and help you prepare to engage artistically, not just technically.
